7 Things I've Learned About Long Hair.

  1. Long hair gets irritating when you hear music with external headphones (like mine) cause the hair keeps messing up with the sound and makes it muffled. Not to mention gets into your ears.
  2. The longer your hair, the harder it is to swim. *Gasp* Who would have known? But good la, can train better with more resistance.
  3. Long hair takes unbelievably long to dry. No wonder my sisters rarely shower at night. Takes like 45 minutes to dry fully la. O.O
  4. Long hair means waking up in the Morning with crazy hairstyles. Hahaha. Especially if your hair is not that long.
  5. Long hair means you look older, cause not from Secondary School anymore lehhh. (=P)
  6. Oh yea, longer hair = more weight. (quick Chee Sheng! Then won't be underweight lehh)
  7. Long hair = No more spiky hair. Unless you use unbelievable amounts of hair gel.
Sleeping about 4 hours everyday for the past 5 days trying to do assignments. Hahaha gosh I think too little sleep means I go crazy. And this flying mosquito just zoomed past me. Okay. Nights.

Click and Watch.

I want to learn how to create such a techno beat on my guitar too! Hahaha credits to Ryan for getting me addicted to the song la. Should go hear those techno remixes too. =)

Emoing.

I realised that for the past few entries it's all really been happy and optimistic and full of lame jokes and all that stuff la, but not really about what I'm feeling? In fact I think I don't really blog about what I'm feeling cause I think everyone reading it will just feel emo after reading an emo blog post by someone. And that's why most of my posts are an attempt at being funny so people reading my blog will feel happy. =)

But I think it's kind of unrealistic for me to attempt to stay happy all the time la, sooo if you just won a new ferrari or something feel free to skip this blog post and come back on a rainy depressing day or something. Okay wait I think people reading that will just feel more emo. Ah never mind.

Started digging through old photographs to find something to photoshop and distract myself. The thing about photographs is that they don't degrade or change, unless you want to be pedantic and argue hard drive degradation and flash capacity and sensor life span. But anyways, was sorting through all my old photographs when I saw this.

It's somewhere near the bottom of this super long post last year when I went cycling and doing random things with Hao Xiang before the O levels.
I'm probably the only person in the World with a picture of this deceased moth, unless moths live for more than 6 months or something.
I'll never again take a picture of this moth, nor will I see it again.
The moth chose to land there for a few minutes, attracted by the light.
At the exact same moment I was walking past and decided to take a picture of it.

I guess it's an interesting angle to think about the picture. And it probably applies to all pictures in general la.

Digging through photographs makes you more depressed. =/

Minghui feels tired. Second month of school feels like 12 months already. Gah. My new lecturer for this block is unrealistically demanding and expects everyone to be masters at drawing and giving our 100%. I'm not really a good cell leader and my cell members aren't really growing in Christ or anything. Heck, half of them don't even come regularly. I'm guilty cause I don't follow up with these people. I'm irritated by some people in my new class who can be pretentious and stuck up Christians at times. I don't know where I'll be in 3 years after I graduate, or if I'll even graduate. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I wish I could go back in time and be a kid again. I want to play around and not bother about anything in this world.
I want to be a moth and fly away after my picture is taken.

New Handphone.

Image taken from here.

Like finally uh. Haha. Unfortunately I don't have an actual picture of it cause my lens is being serviced. Anyways got the phone on Sunday in like 20 minutes. Haha. Because my contract expired a few months ago? I think last year la, haha and I've never gotten around to getting a new contract la.

Anyways my new contract now is $4 cheaper than my old one, and the phone is free. =D I chose to save money for my parents in the current economic meltdown okay hahaha. I'll probably miss my old phone alot, cause it's been with me for 4 years, and I'm so used to messaging with one hand now and having Patrick Star as my background image and that stupid irritating owl ringtone. =/

Ah wells I think I can still have Patrick Star as my background image though. =D

Anyways, went down to Nikon's Service Center at Fuji Xerox Towers on Monday with Ryan to service my camera. My AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED kit lens which came with my D80 had auto focus problems which I only discovered last Wednesday after about a month of not touching my camera. Hence I sent my AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED kit lens for repair at the Nikon Service Center.
(Hurray for complicated, abbreviated, chim-sounding names! =D)

Ryan claims that my AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED kit lens had worn out it's auto-focus gears, meaning I either focused a bit too much, or I took too much pictures la. I'm leaning towards the latter. =P

Anyways the Nikon Service Center was quite cool. They have this pretty awesome selling strategy which is to place the Nikon showroom right next to the customer service area. Sooo when you send your lousy 3-year-old camera for repair, you can spend the 15 minutes waiting time checking out all the shiny new cameras. And if they tell you your camera can't be repaired, then you can just pick out which new camera you want to get! Haha awesome right? Should employ this strategy with like computers and laptops too. Hahaha.

Oh and the free sensor cleaning for Nikon cameras ends on 1st July 2009, so quick go clean your sensors now hahahahaha. If not you'll have to pay $20-$35? Depending on the size of your sensor I think. Heh.

Ohh and I bought my camera on 1st June last year. So my camera's 1st Birthday is coming soon! Haha must buy present..I'll get him a new filter or something.

Left my AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED kit lens with them but kept my camera body, then went to RSC(Ryan's Service Center) at Hougang. Haha he lent me his Minolta film camera and we decided to walk to my house taking pictures along the way.

Film cameras are awesome fun! Although the manual focus thing is quite tricky and half of my pictures are probably blur, but the *click* shutter sound is shiok man. Hahaha. And we went to this weird swamp like river next to Serangoon River, and got 15 plus mosquito bites as a result. =/

Don't have any pictures taken by me because, obviously, the film is not developed ah.

I have pictures of me taken by Ryan though, isn't that better ahahahaha. /thickskin

Minghui pointing camera one way..

Minghui pointing camera the other way..

Minghui acting stupid next to a sign. (the eyeesss!!!)

Some crazy guy was running around the soccer court pretending he'd scored a goal uh. And Ryan was there to capture it all. Crazy.

Done with Drawing.

Yay Minghui is relieved that his first block in Poly is over. I realised that I've only blogged twice since polytechnic started, so I shall resolve to blog more in the future. Anyways my next block is pretty slack relaxed with only 1 subject so I should have more free time. Should. =)

Anyways, for my last assignment for drawing, I had to draw an A2 sized piece.

Patrick is added in for scale. =)

I didn't think to take a picture of my artwork, cause I was too tired and forgot. Haha. Anyways I don't think it's very nice compared to the others in my class laa.

Haha spent last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday sleeping at 3 or 4am and waking up at 7am and rushing projects.

One of my other assignments was to do a collage on your 'favourite design ideas'. Which I have cause I did mine digitally. =D

Not bad right. Hahahaha. The collage was the 'easy' part since you had to write 3 different essays and all that. But I think writing essays in Microsoft Word is so much more awesome than on paper. Although I probably would have ended up writing a 5 page essay for O levels if it was done digitally.

Although had a group project and presentation last Thursday, and it was full of complicating terms and conflicting meanings behind those terms and I think my presentation sort of contradicted itself but our lecturer didn't notice so heng man hahaha. Questions asked were kind of "O.o". Like, "how did you get to where you are today?" and "what is your understanding of design concept and when did your design concept initially start?".
Yaa desiging things also can become so chim one sia.

Haha oh and I went for some Sports Club cca thing cause Chee Sheng asked me to go. Stayed back on Thursday from 12 to 6pm drawing and drawing, then went for dinner and went to report. Wah we played Captain's ball man! I haven't played it in 6 months or more? Hahahaha. And I was the only design school student there and everyone else, including the main comms, were from other schools. =/

Haha but made random friends after just a few rounds of Captain's ball la. Don't think I can remember their names already though. Went for dinner at Macdonald's after that, and walked to the 34 bus stop.

Haha oohh and went swimming with my cell group at Bishan Swimming Complex. Coleman pretending he needed swimming lessons when he was in reality like some fish from the sea la. Hahaha and lost to him in a race. But nevermind I'm a gracious loser. =P

Okay can't remember anything else significant that happened already. I think I'm gaining weight though, cause I've been eating Western food at Design school canteen for like 3 or 4 times this week alone. =O

Minghui Is:

Tyred.

Hahaha okay bad joke. *shiver* Haven't been blogging, cause the amount of drawings/work to be done is phenomenal. =\ And I can't draw human figures properly. Especially their faces, all look very distorted/scary/funny to me. God should have created just simple circles for eyes, straight lines for eyebrows, and a smilely curve for a mouth, and two dots for the nose la. Heh.

Gah. And I think I'm getting old cause I used to be able to sleep at 3am and wake up at 6am for school and not feel tired at all. Now I feel like dead tired if I have less than 4 hours of sleep.

But according to my friend it's because I'm staying up late to do work, which is different from staying up late to play games/surf the net.

Therefore, Minghui's expanded theory on sleeping late states that one should try to do work in the afternoon, and play games at night, instead of the opposite, to obtain a productive and comfortable lifestyle. =)

Starting School.

Okay I realised I haven't blogged at all in 2 or 3 weeks since the start of Polytechnic. Hahaha. So Minghui shall blog today! (instead of finding pictures of architecture and buildings which I'm supposed to do lalala)

I only have 2 subjects a day, Communicating Design Ideas from 9am-12pm and Drawing Essentials from 12pm-3pm. As you can see, no recess time or lunch break. =( Hahaha but our lecturers will give us lunch breaks and all that la.

Polytechnic started with all the design school students going for a gigantic meeting thing with other design school students. Hahaha. Then we had our first lecture after that which was pretty stressful cause it was on drawing and I know nothing about drawing heh.

You would think that drawing essentials teaches you how to draw essentials, but nooooo they make you draw all sorts of objects and organic forms. Hahaha. And most people in my class are all like amazingly talented at drawing and asked all sorts of weird questions during our first tutorial.

And the tutorials are pretty stressful, cause you get assignments on drawing everyday and they're all graded so you can't slack for some drawings and draw detailed stuff for others. Gahh.

And communicating design ideas is worse cause it's like English lessons with a design twist to it. And you have to write 2 page long essays on design ideas and learn all the citation formats and research on your topics and all that boring stuff. Eee. For example, Minghui's Thesis Statement which I think isn't really a thesis statement at all. Hahahaha.
However, although Helvetica is a well crafted font with a variety of weights, is it really useful in today’s designs? Or does it limit creativity, with designers refusing to use anything else? Is Helvetica really as popular and amazing as others make it out to be, or is it nothing more than a font used by designers only?

But okay la, although the tutorials are stressful and the course is competitive and all that, it still beats doing Maths. =D (Minghui, 2009)
